I refer to the Department of Parks and Wildlife and its approach towards corella control and ask, given that birds can cross local government boundaries with ease: (a) what specific resources, including full-time equivalent (FTE) allocation has the Minister's Department allocated towards addressing the corella problems reported by many regional Councils and communities; (b) is the Department developing a State wide co-ordinated approach to the corella, and if so, what is the status of this approach; and (c) is the Department going to provide any additional resources to assist local governments in controlling and managing the numbers of the corellas causing issues from them in their local communities?

(a) The Department of Parks and Wildlife does not currently allocate any specific resources to the control of corellas in the Perth metropolitan area.
(b) In 2013 the Department attempted to develop and co-ordinate a cooperative strategy to control introduced corellas and rainbow lorikeets in the Perth metropolitan area with the Department of Agriculture and Food WA and the WA Local Government Association. The strategy relied on some financial and in-kind support from local governments. The strategy was not implemented due to lack of support from the majority of local governments in the Perth metropolitan area.
(c) The Department provides advice and limited assistance to local governments' planning control activities to ensure they follow best practice, and meet the requirements of the
Wildlife Conservation Act 1950
. The Department is prepared to co-ordinate a regional strategic approach with broad support from local governments.
