HOSPITAL — UPGRADE
1240. Hon DARREN WEST to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to an article in the Narrogin Observer , dated 9 October 2014, regarding the bed capacity
of Narrogin Hospital.
(1) Has any
decision been made as to the final design of the upgrade of Narrogin Hospital;
and, if not, when is a decision expected to be made?
(2) Have any community stakeholders
been consulted as part of the planning process?
(3) If yes to (2) —
(a) which
stakeholders were consulted;
(b) when did
community consultation commence; and
(c) when will it
be completed?
(4) Is a
reduction of bed numbers being considered as part of the upgrades?
(5) If yes to (4)

(a) what is the
reason for the reduction; and
(b) how many beds
are likely to be lost to the wheatbelt south?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) No. The WA
Country Health Service is working with the Department of Finance's
Building Management and Works to align the budget with the most appropriate
design option. A decision is expected in early 2015.
(2) Yes.
(3) (a) Stakeholders
consulted included staff, both clinical and non-clinical, and the district
health advisory council.
(b) In November
2011, with service planning.
(c) Community
consultation will continue throughout the project until completion of the
upgrades.
(4) No.
(5) Not applicable.
