Mr. Sprigg requests specific sport participation rates in WA, questioning why the Department of Sport and Recreation can't provide this data as a key performance indicator. (1) I refer to the answer to Legislative Assembly question on notice No. 40, and ask, will the Minister provide the specific participation rates in each of the sports and activities requested for Western Australia?
(2) If the Minister will not provide this specific information, will the Minister provide a reason why an organisation such as the Department of Sport and Recreation is unable to provide a report on what would be considered as a key performance indicator of its operations?

ht tp://www.ausport.gov.au/scorsresearch/research.asp Table 23 on page 50 lists the participation rates for Western Australia. The ERASS report does not provide age data lower than 15 years old. As advised, the Australian Bureau of Statistics records participation rates. Adult Participation is reported in the Cat.No. 6285.0 "Involvement in Organised Sport and Physical Activity" and child participation is reported in the Cat.No 4901.0 "Children's Participation in Cultural and Leisure Activities." (2) The ERASS data is also utilised within the Department's Annual Report and gives a meaningful comparison between State and National participation statistics. Participation is only one of the Department's performance indicators and the data utilised is considered sufficient.
