Health—Residential aged-care beds
379. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. Given that the Premier has allocated, as we heard in the
house yesterday, zero dollars to his commitment for low-interest loans for aged-care
beds, will he now cancel the racetrack at Burswood and use those funds for that
commitment?

We have on the other
side a hearing problem. Yesterday, the same question was put to the Minister
for Aged Care—is that your title? Hon Simone McGurk—
Mr Lachlan Hunter: Do you need a hearing aid,
Premier?
Withdrawal of remark
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt, I ask you
to withdraw that.
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: No, you need to stand up and do it.
Mr Lachlan Hunter: I withdraw.
Proceeding resumed
The Speaker: That is not the behaviour or the commentary
we need in this chamber.
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Pardon? I am going to call you for the
second time. You do not answer me back.
Mr Roger Cook: The Minister for Aged Care provided in
great detail to the opposition yesterday the work that has been done to stand
up this new and innovative form of financial incentives to aged-care providers
to expand their concessional bed opportunities. You cannot just flick a switch
and make that happen.
Mr Basil Zempilas: You announced it.
Mr Roger Cook: These are complex policies requiring
complex mechanisms.
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition, let the Premier
respond.
Mr Roger Cook: This is an important policy and one
that will be to the great benefit of the aged-care sector, and one, I might
add, that was widely welcomed by the aged-care sector. We are working with it
at the moment to understand the mechanisms, the processes, the criteria and the
opportunities.
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition, I am going to
call you for the first time.
Mr Roger Cook: That particular program will be in
place as soon as possible. We have not only our older adult health hubs, our Hospital
in the Home, the work we are doing with the federal government on urgent care
clinics and our $100 million incentive program for the provision of aged-care
beds, but also a great partnership between the WA Labor government and the
Albanese Labor government. We will work together to make sure that we can
continue to improve aged care in this state.
