I refer to the proposed development of a sports stadium at AK Reserve to replace the sports stadium at Perry Lakes. (1) Is the minister aware that AK Reserve contains bushland listed in the Bush Forever protection area? (2) Is the minister aware that this bushland plays an important role in linking Kings Park and Bold Park? (3) Will the minister give a commitment to protect this listed bushland? (4) If no to (3), why not? (5) If no to (3), should we assume the minister will not be honouring the promised protection of Bush Forever sites? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. However, the property’s inclusion within Bush Forever site 312 was by virtue of its parks and recreation reservation status. The Bush Forever policy only seeks to protect bushland within a Bush Forever site. The site is heavily cleared, and the bushland is limited to the periphery of the site. (2) Yes, there is some linkage value, but given the area of bushland that remains on AK Reserve, this would be minimal. (3) Native vegetation exists around the periphery of AK Reserve, and the impact of any proposed development application would need to be considered, although Bush Forever also recognises the wider social and economic needs of the community. (4)-(5) Not applicable.
