(1) In 2010, the Perth Children's Hospital (PCH), worked in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Mental Health Commission (the Commission) and the demand forecasts undertaken as a result of that collaboration estimated that 20 beds would meet future demand for the under 16 year population.
(2) Preliminary demand projections based on 2011/12 modelling

The Department of Health 2011/12 modelling is based on historical trends from 2007/08 to 2011/12 inpatient activity and the WA State Government Population Projection. In addition the Department of Health is working with the Commission to develop a ten year mental health services plan, which includes determining the level of inpatient services required for the state over the next ten years (including for those less than 16 years of age).
