SOCIAL HOUSING
728. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to the federal government's
announcement of the $2 billion social housing accelerator and media reports
that Western Australia will receive $209 million from that scheme.
(1) What conditions have been placed on the Western Australian
government accessing and using those funds?
(2) With these
extra funds in the state government's social housing program, how many
new homes will be built, in addition to the government's existing
target of 3 300 new social housing dwellings, by July 2025?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Housing.
(1) The Western Australian state government looks
forward to working with the commonwealth to deliver the social housing
accelerator fund. The fund will be used to enhance Western Australia's
current social housing stock, including the delivery of new stock and
refurbishments, and to extend the life of existing properties.
(2) As the
honourable member would be aware, the state government has a commitment to
deliver 4 000 new social housing dwellings across the forward estimates.
Planning for additional social housing delivery will commence shortly and may
expand if the Liberal–National opposition and the Greens in the Senate
support significant investment in social and affordable housing and pass the
Housing Australia Future Fund Bill.
