I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. I am advised - (1) Yes. (2) The Department of Housing and Works prepares environmental assessments of its land development projects in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Authority. The department is examining the integration of sustainable design considerations into its land developments and is intending to undertake a demonstration project at Forrestdale, called Harrisdale eco-village. Its housing construction projects have regard to environmentally sustainable design considerations. In upgrade projects under the New Living Program and regional upgrade strategies, the department provides sustainable fixtures and fittings where appropriate, such as dual-flush cisterns, insulation, AAA-rated shower roses, solar hot water systems in the north west and awnings. (3) Not applicable. (4) Yes. (5) The department does not tolerate antisocial behaviour. The Minister for Housing and Works has recently implemented a Good Neighbour policy designed to clearly articulate the responsibility of tenants under the Residential Tenancies Act. This is supported by various policies such as - 1:9; that is, suburbs should have a good social mix with no more than 12 per cent public housing presence; strict management of the conditions of the tenancy agreement; designing of new land developments and the redevelopment of existing estates to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour under the designing-out-crime principles; and support programs, with funding of around $4 million per annum, for tenants who have difficulty maintaining their current tenancies.
