With regard to the answers provided to my question without notice 1525 of Tuesday, 18 November 2003, of which some notice was given, to the Minister for Health, I ask - (1) Will the Minister for Agriculture be issuing any formal statement, or writing to the workers concerned, advising them that the Armstrong report has been delayed until at least February or March of next year? (2) Does the minister feel a public apology or some other form of explanation is warranted, given the grave health condition of some of the former workers? (3) Does the minister believe that the level of support the Government is providing to the former workers is appropriate given the repeated delays in the tabling of the Armstrong inquiry? (4) If no to (3), can the minister describe other interim measures being considered by the Government to assist the former workers? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question, even though I am not necessarily able to respond to an answer provided by the Minister for Health. Perhaps this question was intended for the Minister for Health; I am not sure. Hon Robin Chapple interjected. Hon KIM CHANCE: I cannot respond to an answer provided by the Minister for Health. (1) Ex-Agriculture Protection Board workers and others on the database will be informed that the outcomes of the expert medical panel’s investigations are not expected to become available until early next year. (2) An apology in this instance is not required given a final reporting date was not set for the panel due to the complex nature of its investigations. (3) Yes. (4) Not applicable.
