I refer to the Fire and Emergency Services Authority's Built Environment Branch, and I ask:
(a) how many staff are employed within the Branch;
(b) how many staff have been recruited from Fire and Rescue Service personnel, and of that number, how many were non-operational;
(c) how many staff have fire engineering qualifications;
(d) how many people within the Branch hold the position of Fire Engineer;
(e) what were the essential criteria for the position of Fire Engineer;
(f) did the appointee(s) of the position of Fire Engineer meet the essential criteria for the position and if not, why not; and
(g) how many other applicants for the position met the essential criteria but were not appointed to the position?

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) advises:
(a) 25
(b) Seven and nil.
(c-d) Two - one permanent and one contract.
(e)
· Post Graduate qualification in fire safety engineering from an accredited University.
· Experience in applying relevant Standards, Building Codes, statutory Acts and Regulations to fire safety engineering assessments and plan submissions in a performance based context.
· Experience with building fire safety systems, design, performance criteria and fire engineering concepts and principles to achieve effective fire safety outcomes.
(f) Yes
(g) The information requested forms part of a confidential Selection and Recruitment Process undertaken in line with the Public Sector Employment Standards and is therefore unable to be released.
