GNANGARA AND JANDAKOT GROUNDWATER —
WATER CORPORATION
718. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the
Minister for Water:
I refer to the answer to question without notice 683 given on
19 September 2012.
(1) The 2009 ''Gnangara
groundwater areas allocation plan'' states that for the periods 2008–09,
2009–10, 2010–11 and 2011–12, a maximum of 145 gigalitres
for the combined abstraction from the Gnangara and Jandakot systems will be
allowed, with up to 165 gigalitres allowed if exceptional circumstances
provisions are met. It also states that following the commissioning of the
Southern Seawater Desalination Plant in 2012, this maximum will be reviewed. On
what basis, therefore, can it be claimed that the maximum allocation available
to the Water Corporation under the variable groundwater abstraction rule has
been revised for 2012–13, given the minister states in answer to
question without notice 683 that the new revised maximum is 145 gigalitres?
(2) What is
the revised maximum for the period 2012–13 under the exceptional
circumstances provision?

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
Unfortunately, I do not have any of that information with me. If it comes in on
time, I will be happy to stand and answer it.
