I thank the member for his question
and his interest in the electorate of my colleague the Minister for
Environment. I do not know where that question came from. I will try to delay a
little to enable the member for Cottesloe to get his do-over done!
It is good news that the government
is investing heavily in police infrastructure to meet the needs of police
operations around the state, and also to accommodate the growth in the police
numbers we aim to achieve. I can confirm that close to $90 million or $100 million
worth of infrastructure is coming to conclusion at the Armadale justice complex. Forrestfield has a new police
station underway, with a $22 million investment there. The Fremantle police complex is moving along, and that will be
worth around $100 million. The member for Baldivis will be happy to hear
that the police station in his electorate that was committed to at the last
election now has a budget allocation of
$25.3 million. Land has been acquired. The member and I were there not that
long ago to unveil a sign, of course , to notify residents and locals
about the progress of the project. The station itself will ultimately
accommodate up to 100 officers. That will not necessarily be the number that
starts there, but we are aiming to deliver it at the end of 2024 and for it to
be operational in January or February 2025. The police subdistrict that will be
serviced from that police station will cover all of Baldivis, obviously, and
across to Warnbro and Port Kennedy in my electorate and Secret Harbour and
Singleton, I believe. Essentially, that police station will deliver policing to
a slice of the subdistricts of Rockingham and Mandurah. It will enable officers
who live locally to seek to be posted there, and also provide a response in
between those two big subdistricts of Mandurah and Rockingham. It is good news.
It is all on track. Hopefully, the member for Baldivis will not bother me again
for quite a few months—until the next major milestone, by which time I am
sure he will torture me again!
The SPEAKER : He did have an
excellent commitment from the former Premier and former police minister!
