I refer to the so-called McRae plan for a major freight route west of Kwinana Freeway following the railway reserve through to North Lake Road and thereafter crossing wetlands in the vicinity of South Lake. (1) Is Mr McRae the Chairman of the Local Impacts Committee established by the minister? (2) Was the plan raised by Mr McRae with the minister prior to announcement; and, if so, when, and what was the outcome of that consultation? (3) Did Mr McRae seek the advice and/or approval of the Local Impacts Committee prior to releasing the plan? (4) Did Mr McRae consult the relevant local government prior to releasing the plan? (5) Is the McRae plan government policy? (6) Is the McRae plan supported by the minister? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. Hon Simon O’Brien: A straight answer. That was good. Hon Graham Giffard: As always. Hon KEN TRAVERS: As always. Hon Simon O’Brien: That will be the end of it. Hon KEN TRAVERS: No. Hon Simon O’Brien always gets too excited at this point. (2)-(6) This route was raised as part of the freight network review alternative route assessments. The route concept now proposed by Mr McRae is a lower impact, lower cost variation on the options considered in the freight network review. All possibilities need to be thoroughly examined for the future, and this is one route that has support from Mr McRae. The Government will continue to examine all viable alternative routes.
