YOUTH DETENTION — SUICIDE AND SELF-HARM
759. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
(1) How many
detainees have been located at unit 18, Casuarina Prison, since its
establishment in July 2022?
(2) Of those referred to in (1), how
many have been Aboriginal?
(3) How many
instances of self-harm or suicide by detainees have there been in unit 18 since
its establishment in July 2022?
(4) How many of
the instances of self-harm or suicide referred to in (3) have been by
Aboriginal detainees?

The Department of Justice advises the following.
(1) There have been 71.
(2) There have been 57.
(3) Table 1, attempted
suicide and self-harm instances at unit 18 between 20 July 2022 and 17 June
2024, by facility and type.
