INDUSTRIAL ESTATE —
NEWMAN
818. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the minister representing the
Minister for Lands:
I refer to negotiations between the
Shire of East Pilbara and the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage
regarding 36 hectares of land by Newman Airport that the shire would like to
develop as an industrial estate. The shire has signed memoranda of
understanding with large industrial companies that would bring huge benefits to
the town of Newman, but it needs a government decision to be made quickly and
sensibly.
(1) When does the
minister expect to make a decision on the application for that land?
(2) Does the
minister recognise that the people of Newman stand to lose valuable
opportunities if the government causes unnecessary delays?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Lands.
(1) The
Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is awaiting further information from
the Shire of East Pilbara before an informed decision can be made on this
proposal.
(2) The state
government has been assisting the Shire of East Pilbara for some time and is
ready to prioritise the proposal upon receipt of all required information from
the shire.
