With regard to the Indigenous Ownership and Joint Management of Conservation Lands in Western Australia Consultation Paper released in July 2003 -
(1) When will the Government release its responses to the Consultation Paper?
(2) Does the Government still consider it is imperative to amend State legislation to enable Aboriginal people to secure rights and interests in conservation lands and guarantee their future involvement in the joint management of those lands, as stated in the Consultation Paper?
(3) Will the Government introduce the amending legislation during its current term of Government?
(4) If the amending legislation will not be introduced in the current term, what is causing the delay, given the recognition of an ‘imperative’?
(5) What steps is the Government undertaking to expedite the introduction of these amendments?
(6) If the Government is not able to commit to introducing the amending legislation in this term of Government, when will it be introduced?

(3)-(5) It will not be appropriate to amend legislation until all consultations have been concluded. There are active consultations on these matters continuing with a broad range of indigenous groups and other stakeholders. (6) It is anticipated that legislative amendments will be introduced in the next term of Government.
