Department of Industry and Resources advises:
(1)
· Western Australian Innovation Capability Development Scheme - Capital Access
· Western Australian Innovation Capability Development Scheme - Innovation in ICT
· Business Development and Skills Training Scheme - Biotechnology Industry
· Inventor of the Year Award Program
(2) The Western Australian Innovation Capability Development Scheme aims to encourage a culture of innovation providing incentives to:
· build innovation-related support services for Western Australian industry;
· support Western Australian companies to develop and commercialise innovative products and services; and
· facilitate Western Australian industry to access investment and development capital.
The Capital Access component provides support of up to 50% of eligible expenditure, to a maximum of $25,000, for Western Australian companies seeking to attract significant Commonwealth or private sector funding for the development and commercialisation of innovative products and services.
The Innovation in ICT component aims to assist small to medium sized companies within the Western Australian ICT industry develop or commercialise innovative ICT products and services. The program aims to improve the international competitiveness of the Western Australian ICT industry, by funding 50% of eligible development activity expenditure to a maximum of $10,000.
The Business Development and Skills Training Scheme assists small to medium sized companies and Industry Associations. The scheme aims to improve the international competitiveness of Western Australian industry, by improving the performance of viable businesses within the strategic industries being targeted by the department. Support is provided of up to 50% of eligible expenditure, to a maximum of $20,000.
The Inventor of the Year Award Program aims to promote the development of innovation across the public, private and education sectors. A total of $276,100 cash and in-kind prizes were awarded in the 2006 Program.
