AUSTRALIND — RAILCARS
1266. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Transport:
Thank you,
President. We have to watch our acronyms!
I refer to the seventieth
anniversary of the Australind train on 26 November 2022 and to the
Public Transport Authority's Australind action plan of 23 January
2020 for delivery of two new Australind trains, expected to be delivered
in 2022–23.
(1) What is the
manufacturing and fit-out status of the six new railcarriages promised for the
delivery of the Australind to Perth and return services?
(2) Upon
delivery, what time frame is envisaged for the testing of the six railcarriages
before the passenger service with the new trains becomes passenger operational?
(3) Given that the six railcars will not be delivered
in 2022, will the minister commit to both the delivery and the commencement of rail passenger operations on the
new Australind train service in the calendar year 2023?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The
procurement process of the new Australind railcars to replace the
existing train is continuing as part of the wider procurement of the Metronet
railcars. It is anticipated that the new railcars will be ready for the
reopening of the Armadale line.
