Hon Martin Aldridge asks the Minister for Health about average nurse to patient ratios in WA public hospitals for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years. The Minister's response indicates that nurse to patient ratios are not used, but rather the Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) workload methodology.

I refer to staff in public hospitals, including public
hospitals with private operators, and I ask: (a) for
each hospital, what was the average nurse to patient ratio across all wards
during the 2019-20 financial year; and (b) for
each hospital, what is the average nurse to patient ratio across all wards
during the 2020-21 (current) financial year to date?

I am advised:
(a)-(b) Nurse to patient ratios are not used in Western Australia public hospitals. The Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) workload methodology and management model is used. This is the only workload methodology used in WA by all WA Health Service Providers.
