I refer the Minister to the matter of funding for operating the MRI machine at Princess Margaret Hospital, and ask -
(1) Did the Health Department, through its budget submission for the 2003-04 State Budget or any other mechanism, request from State Treasury additional funding to meet the operating costs of the MRI machine, and if so, how much funding was received for that purpose?
(2) If there was funding allocated, was funding allocated for the forward estimates period and how much in each of the next three years?
(3) If the Health Department did not request funding from the Treasurer to meet the operating costs of the MRI, why not?

2. The 2003/04 budgeted expenditure for the Department of Health is $3.019b. Of this, $242m has been allocated to the Women’s & Children Health Service. From this, $940,000 has been allocated to fund the MRI. In forward years, this is expected to increase to $1.1m/year (based on current activity expectations). 3. See 1.
