minister representing the Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the article in The
Weekend Australian , ''Legacy warning in mine collapse'',
featured on page 7 on 23 November 2013, and the Maggie Hays mine.
(1) What is the status of MC63/2941, and who was the owner?
(2) What is the status of M63/163,
and who is the owner?
(3) Who is fiscally responsible for
the collapsed pit and why?
(4) Is a bond
still retained by the Department of Mines and Petroleum from the company whose
operation led to the collapse of the pillar?
(5) If yes to (4), will those finds
be mobilised to ameliorate the impacts of this collapse?

(1) The tenement
no longer exists as it was surrendered on 18 July 1982 by the tenement holder,
Amoco Minerals Australia Ltd.
(2) The status is live, and the
tenement holder is Norilsk Nickel.
(3) Norilsk Nickel, because it is
the tenement holder.
(4) Yes.
(5) Yes, if required.
