(1) Why has the Forests Products Commission (FPC) decided to log the trees that are to be removed within Ludlow State forest as part of Cable Sands (WA) Pty Ltd’s mining operation, rather than allow them to be auctioned as standing timber?
(2) Why has the FPC decided to transport the harvested logs to Harvey when this will add approximately $20 per tonne to the production cost of the logs?
(3) If the logs are to be harvested rather than sold as standing timber, why has the FPC decided not to have an on-site auction rather than an auction at Harvey, thereby saving transport costs?

With respect to tuart, final arrangements have not been made. However, it is expected that the production of logs will provide a better basis for sale than the sale of standing timber, because log quality and quantity will be better known to both buyer and seller. It will also best provide for safe and timely removal of forest products from the proposed mine area. Final details have not been decided, but indications are that the sale of tuart logs is most likely to be through an auction, as nearby as practical.
