NURSES AND MIDWIVES — HIGHER EDUCATION
CONTRIBUTION SCHEME — REGIONS
1437. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the state government's
HECS support for regional nurses and midwives.
(1) How many applications for this
program have been received to date?
(2) How is the program being
promoted to newly graduated students?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) A total of
209 newly qualified registered nurses and midwives have been recruited via
GradConnect for graduate employment in the WA Country Health Service commencing
July 2023 and ending June 2024. The graduates are eligible for the HECS
incentive.
(2) The program
has been promoted to undergraduate nurses and midwives through the WA
Department of Health Chief Nursing and Midwifery Office website, targeted
virtual and face-to-face roadshows across Western
Australian education providers of nursing and midwifery studies, an online
virtual forum scheduled on 27 November 2023 to target graduates from 1 July
2024, and the upcoming nursing and midwifery graduate application handbook
launching in November.
