UTILITIES — LATE
PAYMENT FEES AND INTEREST CHARGES
172. Mr D.C. NALDER to the Premier:
I refer to Synergy, Horizon Power
and Water Corporation charging interest of up to 11.7 per cent on late payment
of overdue accounts. Will the Premier now lead by example and commit to
suspending all late payment fees and interest charged by the state government
electricity and water entities?

We are looking at a range of initiatives to alleviate
pressure on families. I am very concerned about the people who will lose their
jobs during this period, certainly over the course of the next six months or
year, and perhaps beyond. We are currently
examining all of those issues. The government already issued a significant
stimulus package during the course of this week. We will do a lot more,
but we are currently going through the options of what is available to us.
