QuestionView source ↗

(1) Is the Minister aware that some park home owners are being charged 22 cents per unit of electricity by the owners of caravan and park home parks, compared with a cost to the owner of 11.4 cents per unit?
(2) Does the Government believe that this 93% increase in direct cost of electricity as paid by park owners is a fair profit passed on to park home owners?
(3) If no, what action will the Government take to ensure that park home owners are charged a fair price for electricity that they use?

(2) The Government acknowledges that while there may be other factors relating to domestic and commercial supply rates, and an administrative component factored into the increased cost of electricity, an increase of 93% does appear to be highly excessive. (3) The Government will ensure that the issue of electricity charges for park home tenants will be included in the statutory review of the Residential Tenancies Act 1987. The preparation for this review has already commenced, and I thank the Park Home Owners Association of WA Inc. for providing a preliminary submission for the review, outlining its concerns with the current Act. The Government supports amendments to the Act, and will honour the commitment made in its 2001 election policy platform that “Labor will amend the Residential Tenancies Act to create more certainty for residents in caravan parks and home park owners”.
