TEACHERS — INDUSTRIAL ACTION —
IMPACT
249. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Education:
I have a supplementary question. The minister's
failure to reach a deal with Western Australian teachers will only harm Western
Australian students.
Can the minister advise how many schools will be forced to
shut next Tuesday due to the failed negotiations?
The SPEAKER : Just before the minister answers, that
was a preamble. You had a preamble and then you asked a question. If you want
to have a supplementary question, you need to ask a direct, brief question.
Minister, can you disregard the first bit and answer only the second part of
the question.

I cannot give the member an answer today on how many schools
may have to close. We are seeking to make other arrangements. We are not sure
yet. The union delegate at each school will let the principal know how many
teachers will be on strike. From that, we
will then know the possibility of the school having to close. We are doing
everything we possibly can to minimise disruption to the school day.
