❓ Question regarding the funding of the Perth Freight Link project, specifically the increase in state government contribution and the source of funds, as well as potential costs for a Swan River crossing. The answer disputes the premise of lack of investor interest and provides budget allocation details, while remaining vague on the Swan River crossing funding.

I refer to the Minister's comments in the other place on 20 May 2014, in which he stated the total State Government contribution to the Perth Freight Link would be $260 million, and ask: (a) following lack of investor interest, the State Government's contribution will now be at least $650 million, from which part of the State Budget has the extra $390 million been raised and with what impact on other areas of government expenditure; and (b) given the Minister last month acknowledged the need for the Link to extend across the Swan River if it to reach Fremantle Port, from which part of the State Budget will the further $250 million or more required for a bridge be derived and with what impact on other areas of government spending?

(a) The Members understanding of the situation is incorrect, there has in fact been strong engagement by industry on this project.
As per Budget paper Number 2, Division 72 page 818, funding of $1.575b is allocated to the Perth Freight Link project. This includes a State Government contribution of $650m, which includes $59m previously committed to High Street upgrades, a project that was commenced following the disgraceful sale of the Fremantle Eastern Bypass by the former Labor Government.
The State Government is continuing to explore potential private sector involvement in order to maximise returns for the State.
(b) The State Government is investigating options to cross the Swan River.
