ASSET SALES — WESTERN POWER
880. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Treasurer:
I refer to the Liberal–National
government plans to privatise Western Power and the Treasurer's
comments a month ago —
We'll go through a whole
range of issues over the next few weeks then we will enunciate an approach that
we're going to take to the transaction
(1) Has the Leader of the Nationals
agreed to the Treasurer's Western Power privatisation plan?
(2) Will the
Treasurer announce his privatisation approach before this house rises next week
so all aspects of it can be properly debated?

(1)–(2) I
would just like to comment that the Leader of the Opposition is going to run a campaign
for a policy that currently does not exist.
Mr
D.J. Kelly : It's just in the budget!
Dr
M.D. NAHAN : No, it is not in the budget. At budget time we made a statement
that we were going to pursue the development of a series of asset sales,
including Western Power, and that is what we are doing. We note that the people
opposite, Trump-like, are running a propaganda campaign to try to scare the
people of Western Australia. We recognise that. They will be exposed for what
they are. We will continue to develop, as the Leader of the Opposition just
read out very articulately. We are looking at the options. We will make a decision
and we will announce it in our good time.
