Following the State Government’s announcement of an increase in the number of Mines Safety Inspectors, I ask:
(a) how many Department of Mines and Petroleum Inspectors are currently located at the Collie office;
(b) what is the minimum number of these inspectors that have been employed at the Collie office during 2007, 2008 and 2009;
(c) in 2009 how many hours in total have been worked by these Inspectors in the coalfields and associated industries in the Shire of Collie;
(d) in total how many hours have been worked by these Inspectors in areas outside the Shire of Collie; and
(e) what is the budgeted number of hours for Department of Mining and Petroleum Inspectors permanently located at the Collie office in 2010?

(a) Currently there are eight (8) inspectors located at the Collie office.
(b) The minimum number of inspectors located at the Collie office were:
(i) 2007 - 6
(ii) 2008 - 5
(iii) 2009 - 7
(c) In 2009 the estimated hours worked by Collie office inspectors at sites in the Shire of Collie is not a statistic that can be calculated from current records. It is however possible to state that approximately 15% of the inspections undertaken in 2009 were conducted on sites within the Collie shire:
Worsley Alumina, Wesfarmers Coal and Griffin Coal.
(d) In 2009 the estimated hours worked by Collie office inspectors at sites outside of the Shire of Collie is not a statistic that can be calculated from current records.
It is however possible to state that approximately 85% of the inspections undertaken in 2009 were conducted at the sites external to the Collie Shire.
(e) The budgeted hours for the eight (8) inspectors located at the Collie office in 2010 is 12,934 hours. This is on a 37.5 hour per week per FTE basis.
