Traffic infringement matters go to court if they are objected to. Where traffic infringement matters are objected to, they enter the court system as a summons in the Magistrates or Children's Court jurisdiction.
These summonses are listed before the court within four to eight weeks from lodgement. If at that hearing the matter is defended it will then be listed for trial. The median time to trial for matters in the Magistrates and Children's Courts, is 18 weeks.
The Courts do not have any control over whether traffic infringements are contested and do not keep data of when infringements are issued.
