(a) There were 25 prisoner on prisoner assaults reported at Albany Regional Prison (ARP) in the 12 months ending 1 March 2010.
(b) There were three prisoner on prison officer assaults reported at ARP in the 12 months ending 1 March 2012.
(i) One of the three assaults resulted in medical treatment for the officer.
(ii) One of the three assaults resulted in the officer needing time off work.
(iii) The officer involved in the assault had 180 hours off work.
(c) Yes.
(i) [See tabled paper no.] It is noted that all defects have been rectified.
(ii) As with any major construction projects a number of defects were identified at Practical Completion (PC) and during the Defects Liability Period. Standard building contracts recognise that defects will occur in construction and some will only become apparent after PC/building handover and during the commissioning/occupation period. All omissions or defects in the work under the Contract were identified and referred to the Contractor; Broad Construction Services Pty Ltd for rectification at their expense. Due to the unique nature of maximum security prison operations, defects are required to be rectified during commissioning and prior to the occupation of the cell blocks by prisoners. At no stage of the fast-track prisoner accommodation project has the security of the prison's operations or the safety of staff/prisoners ever been allowed to be compromised.
(iii) Broad Construction Services Pty Ltd has rectified identified omissions or defects in work under the Contract at their own expense.
(iv) As with any standard construction contract, omissions or defects in work under the Contract are rectified at the Contractor's expense, and no claims for the cost of rectification of works under the Contract are submitted by the Contractor to the Principal.
