Responded by
Minister for Transport
Response time
28 days
(1) I can advise that the Shire's letter is under consideration and that I will be responding to the Shire on the matters it has raised in due course.
Furthermore, this Government is well aware of the concerns that the Shire has in regard of its ongoing management obligations at Port Geographe.
It is the State's aim to work with the Shire of Busselton, the developer and the local community to address ongoing management issues at Port Geographe.
I am pleased to advise that a community forum, the Port Geographe Community Consultation Group, has been established with the Hon Barry House MLC, Member for the South West Region, as its chairman.
The first meeting was held in the Shire's offices on 30 April. Membership of the consultation group includes local community associations, the developer, the Shire of Busselton and the Departments of Health, Environment and Conservation, and Planning and Infrastructure.
I am also awaiting further legal advice on the full extent of the developer's responsibilities.
Following the outcome of the investigation work and legal advice, I expect the State will be in a better position to reconsider the Shire's ongoing management obligations that will apply after the date of handover. At that time, I will be happy to meet with the Shire and others to discuss the outcomes of the studies and the way forward
(2) - (3) No, I expect that a reply will be sent shortly.
(4)- (14) Not Applicable.
