CRIMINAL INJURIES
COMPENSATION — JUDGE STAUDE'S COMMENTS
918. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the appeal decision by
His Honour, District Court Judge Staude, in RE AB [2023] WADC 28 on 17 March 2023,
at 61, in which he said —
The assessor's decision and
the process by which it was reached is, to say the least, gravely disquieting.
On
what date was Assessor Hafford requested to publish the reasons for decision
that she published on 3 October 2022?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Attorney General.
The Attorney General is not aware
of any such request being made. Absent a request, publication of reasons was a matter
for the assessor in the individual case.
