Agencies, departments and government-trading enterprises each have a responsibility to ensure they maintain security over their own systems and to provide information security training for their staff.
The Department of Finance manages the ServiceNet network which provides a baseline of internet-focused security measures for any agency that connects to it or hosts services on its infrastructure and for client agencies to discuss their security arrangements with ServiceNet.
ServiceNet's core business is the provision of Internet Services to government organisations. Key components of the Internet Services are security, internet traffic delivery and monitoring and interagency network and IP communication services. The service is not mandatory but is used by 67 government agencies.
A whole of government Common Use Arrangement ( CUA) exists to assist agencies. CUA Information Security Management Services (14998) provides agencies with information security consultancy, auditing and compliance, training and awareness and testing services. The CUA is available to agencies for training of staff in information security.
Provision of the information requested above across all government agencies would require considerable time, which would divert staff away from their normal duties, and it is not considered a reasonable or appropriate use of government resources to provide this information.
