MENTAL HEALTH — ALLEGED PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL ATTACK
700. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to
the Minister for Mental Health:
I refer to the story reported in The Weekend West of 21–22 June 2014 titled, ''Rapist
'held on victim's ward''', which states that
Debora Colvin, head of mental health advocacy group the Council of Official
Visitors, said the case highlighted the issue of the sexual safety of patients
in all of Western Australia's psychiatric hospitals, and that she was
aware of at least one other recent case where a male patient had allegedly
sexually assaulted a female patient.
(1) Is the minister aware of this ''other recent case'',
and when did she become aware of it?
(2) Can the
minister advise the house if the matter concerning the ''other recent
case'' was reported to the police; and, if so, when, and by whom?
(3) If no to (2), why not?
