609. Hon KATE DOUST to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Science and Innovation:
I refer the Leader of the House to
question without notice 993 in relation to business incubators at the
Innovation Centre WA and the Western Australian State Agricultural
Biotechnology Centre.
(1) How many
early-stage or start-up companies are located within the incubators at each of
the Innovation Centre WA and the WASABC; and, for each company —
(a) what are their names;
(b) in what year were they started at
the incubator; and
(c) at which incubator are they are
located?
(2) How much non–WA
government funding has been raised by the respective incubator program for
early-stage or start-up companies within the incubator programs since 2008?

The Minister for Science and
Innovation is not responsible for the State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre.
Therefore, the below responses relate only to the Innovation Centre WA.
(1) (a)–(b)
Metro Power Company, 2010–12; iCetana Pty Ltd, 2009–12; and
Health Safety Works, 2 February 2012. Several companies that were supported by
state government incubation services have recently relocated to commercial
premises. The department is undertaking a review of its incubation program.
(c) The above companies are located
at the Innovation Centre WA, Bentley.
(2) The level
of non–WA government funding that has been raised by the incubator
program includes $1.5 million of venture capital, $25 000 from a non–WA
government awards program and $500 000 of private equity.
Innovation is not responsible for the State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre.
