The Department of Justice advises:
(a) Site 7 - Part of Roebuck Plains Pastoral Lease east of 12 Mile (Part Lot 1544)
Site 12 - Part of Roebuck Plains Pastoral Lease southeast of 12 Mile (Part Lot 1544)
Site 29 Industrial Area – Nyamba Buru Yawuru land (Lot 586).
(b) Site 7 was deemed to be too close to the nearest residence.
Site 12 was strongly opposed by 12 Mile Community residents.
Site 29 is currently zoned as Industry and the Shire of Broome did not approve the Department of Justice’s submission to rezone to a Public Purpose Prison reserve to accommodate the new Broome Custodial Facility.
The Department of Justice continues to progress long-term custodial infrastructure planning. $4.7 million has been allocated in the State Budget to support this work.
