BOCS TICKETING AND MARKETING SERVICES 479. Mr HYDE to the Minister for Culture and the Arts: A major issue in the election for my electorate and the arts community was the continuation of a dedicated Western Australian ticketing operation. Labor gave an election commitment not to sell BOCS Ticketing and Marketing Services, as was planned by the previous Government. Will the minister please inform the House what has happened to BOCS? Ms McHALE

What a good question indeed. I thank the member for his question. More importantly, I thank the member for his support of the arts in Western Australia, particularly in his seat in the metropolitan area, and also of BOCS. I am pleased to inform the House that instead of selling the State’s premier theatre booking service, BOCS Ticketing and Marketing Services, as the Opposition was going to do when it was in government, the Government will be upgrading it to offer an improved service that will assist agencies to market their arts events and improve overall the quality of arts in this State. The ticketing system infrastructure will be upgraded to the latest version. This will provide the public with direct online selling through the Internet and online credit authorisation. The upgrade will begin in November, and will be met from the Perth Theatre Trust’s existing budget. This upgrade will complement enhancements recently implemented at BOCS Ticketing and Marketing Services, including expanding the size of the call centre and installing additional dedicated telephone lines. A forum of WA arts companies, promoters and other clients strongly supported the decision to retain and enhance BOCS Ticketing and Marketing Services. This is an excellent outcome for the arts industry and theatre audiences of Western Australia. I repeat that instead of selling BOCS, as the previous Government had decided to do, this Government will improve it for the benefit of the arts industry.
