HALE HOUSE — PARKING BAYS
675. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the Leader of the House representing
the Premier:
I refer to the new offices for the Premier in Hale House.
(1) Do the
works associated with this project include constructing any new or refurbished
parking bays for staff who will occupy the building?
(2) If yes to (1) —
(a) how many bays;
(b) what is the estimated cost of
these works;
(c) will staff using these bays be
required to pay for their parking; and, if not, why not; and
(d) how much will staff be
required to contribute to the cost of providing these parking bays?
(3) If no to (1), where does the government expect the staff
located in this building will park?
(4) In light
of the Deputy Premier's comment that nurses must pay for the cost of
providing new parking at QEII, will the Premier be making any contribution to
the cost of the new garage to park his vehicle at this building?

I thank the member for some notice of this question, which
must be about the most puerile question I have ever heard in this place.
(1) Yes.
Hon Ken Travers : You should listen to the Minister for
Transport in the other place if you want to hear puerile.
The PRESIDENT : Order.
Hon NORMAN MOORE : Does Mr Travers pay for his parking?
The PRESIDENT : Order.
Hon Ken Travers : No, I don't.
Hon NORMAN MOORE : Why not? The member thinks everybody else
should have their parking paid for.
I continue my answer —
(2) (a) There are 27 bays allocated for visitors, staff,
security and the disabled.
(b) The cost is included in the
overall cost of the project.
(c)–(d)
The usual arrangements for parking will apply as for government departments and
members of Parliament where parking is provided.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) No. The cost is included in the overall cost of the
project.
