Cannabis
1239. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Health:
I refer the minister
to suggestions that cannabinoid hyperemesis, which is commonly attributed to
the strength of the cannabis consumed and possibly linked to genetics, may be
at least as much an outcome of pollutants, including lead added to increase the
weight by unscrupulous dealers, and pesticides.
(1) What is the Cook Labor government's priority—increased
conviction rates or the safety of those who choose to partake in illicit drug
use?
(2) Given that homegrown cannabis allows the
grower and end user a high degree of certainty as to what was used to grow the
product and its purity, not to mention its lower strength than average, will
the government consider looking again at the case for decriminalisation, as
pursued by its predecessor under Dr Geoff Gallop?
