Comparison of offence statistics prior to July 2017 with those for later periods should be made with caution due to changes to recording practices and counting rules, and the ongoing implementation of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Australian and New Zealand Standard Offence Classification (ANZSOC) 2011. This process includes a review of the categorisation of offences for reporting purposes, which may result in revision of statistics.
