FORRESTFIELD–AIRPORT
LINK — SOIL CONTAMINATION
771. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to a landfill waste
classification—a waste definition—of April 2018.
(1) What is the concentration of
PFAS in which solid waste is determined to be a special waste type 3?
(2) If any
material contains PFAS below the concentration in answer to (1), what will its
classification be?
(3) Can the
minister confirm that some of the stockpiled material at 777 Abernethy Road,
Forrestfield, contaminated with PFAS is being transported and used close to or
adjacent to Woodlupine Brook?
(4) Can the minister confirm that
PFAS compounds are highly soluble in water?
(5) Can the minister confirm that the PFAS guidelines
for aquatic ecosystems in freshwater and marine water contained in the ''PFAS
National Environmental Management Plan'' are more stringent than the
concentrations found in the Forrestfield–Airport Link excess fill?
(6) If yes to (3), can the minister assure the house
that the PFAS compounds will not leach out of the FAL excess fill into
the Woodlupine Brook and then into the Swan River?

I thank the honourable member for
the question.
I have indicated to the honourable
member that the question I had seen earlier in the day needed answers from a number
of departments, so it could not be provided in the time available. However, in
hindsight, I do not think it was that question; I think it was another question
in relation to PFAS. Regardless —
Hon Dr Steve Thomas : It is
C770.
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON : Sure. I will
endeavour to provide an answer to that question tomorrow.
