I refer to Recommendation 12 of Report 12, of the Standing Committee on Estimates and Financial Operations into the Balga Works Program, where it stated, ‘The Committee recommends that the Government examine whether it has any recourse to recoup monies including outstanding wages and superannuation from any individual or company and their directors involved in the management of the Balga Works Program including Mr Hammond, Mr Michael Carton and Hurson Pty Ltd’, and ask -
(1) Have you instructed the Department of Education and Training to examine whether it has any recourse to recoup monies including outstanding wages and superannuation from any individual or company and their directors involved in the management of the Balga Works Program including Mr Hammond, Mr Michael Carton and Hurson Pty Ltd?
(2) If yes to (1), has the examination concluded and will you table it at the next day’s sitting?
(3) If no to (2), given that the Minister for Training was a member of this committee and supported the recommendation and now has the power to implement it, why not?

On 14 November 2008, I provided to Parliament the Department of Education and Training response ('Response') to Report 12 : Balga Works Program ('Report') of the Standing Committee on Estimates and Financial Operations ('Committee').  The Response was tabled on 25 November 2008, Tabled Paper 345.
On 5 March 2009 and 30 March 2009, the Director General of Education and Training and other officers of the Department appeared before the Committee to answer questions about the Response ('Hearings').  The Hearings were recorded by Hansard and a transcript of the Hearings is available on the Parliamentary Website for the Committee under Miscellaneous Proceedings ('Transcripts').
The Tabled Paper and Transcripts address the Member's questions.
