ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTORS — PERFORMANCE
I refer to the Economic Regulation Authority report into the 2008–09 performance of electricity distributors. (1) Given the minister was unimpressed with the findings, what is he doing to improve the performance of Western Power and Horizon Power? (2) Has the minister met with these utilities since this report was released to discuss improving their performance? (3) What improvements have these utilities undertaken to make? Hon PETER COLLIER

I thank the honourable member for the question. (1)-(3) I always look forward to Economic Regulation Authority reports—I really do—and particularly this one, which highlights issues in the sector, and we will react accordingly. I meet on a very regular basis with Horizon Power, Western Power, Synergy and Verve. We discuss ways in which we can identify deficiencies within those corporations and the ways in which we can improve on the efficiency and reliability of the energy sector as a whole. I met with Horizon Power just yesterday and we discussed this very issue. Over the next few weeks—I think we will make the determination in about a month or so—I will meet with Horizon Power and all the other utilities to identify specific areas that need improvement and ensure that we can work in a cooperative and collaborative fashion to not only identify those issues, but also take steps to correct the problems that are identified.
