HOUSING AFFORDABILITY
I have a supplementary question. Will the Minister for Planning make himself accountable on the housing affordability issue by nominating his view of where the median house price for Perth will be if his policies are successful? Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Thank you, members! Mr J.H.D. DAY

Mr Speaker, what I am certainly not going to do is seek to prophesise what the property prices might be in Perth or other parts of Western Australia in the future. We need to appreciate that the median house price has risen in the past six months or so because the sales that have occurred in that time have been at the higher end of the market, and they are being compared with the sales in the first home owner component of the market that were occurring prior to the conclusion of the boost from the first home owner grant, which was phased out at the end of December last year. That is one important point that the opposition needs to appreciate. We are certainly taking action to ensure that land is available; indeed, something like 60 000 or 70 000 lots have been given conditional approval for subdivision in Western Australia. About 18 000 hectares of land has been zoned for urban development in the Perth metropolitan area, and I could go on and on.
