POLICE —
VOLUNTARY REDUNDANCY SCHEME
378. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the
Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question. Have additional sergeants
over and above those who expressed interest by the cut-off date been
individually targeted and asked to apply to leave the police service before a
cut-off date of 30 June this year; and, if so, how many?

As with any redundancy offer within police, the expression of
interest has gone out right throughout the commissioned ranks and the officers —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members! Member for Midland!
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : I
will update the house about the success of the offer when it is finalised and
when officers who have expressed interest in taking up the voluntary redundancy
have been finalised. Had the member for Midland listened to the first part of
my answer, I did say that we have extended the offer to senior sergeants and
people at that level.
Point of Order
Mrs
M.H. ROBERTS : I asked whether individual commissioned officers who
did not apply have now been targeted for the so-called voluntary redundancy;
and if so, how many have been targeted who did not apply?
Questions without Notice Resumed
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
In this space, we are interested in releasing 30 commissioned officer positions
through a voluntary redundancy arrangement.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members! Member for Midland!
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : I
met with the directors of the WA Police Union just this morning and they are
really happy with this offer and very excited at the prospect of more of their
officers receiving a voluntary redundancy funded from within police resources.
