(1) Will the minister give an assurance that clinical services in Geraldton will not be reduced in any way because the Geraldton Health Service has received $1.8 million less than is required to provide the service at the same level offered last year? (2) (a) Will the minister confirm that the project time frame for the $35 million Geraldton Regional Hospital redevelopment will be met, given that there is an indication that a planning and infrastructure committee will again review the plans; and (b) can the minister indicate a completion date? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of the question. (1) The Geraldton Health Service’s board is committed to maintaining clinical services from the health service while meeting its budgetary obligations for 2001-02. (2) The Geraldton Health Service’s redevelopment project control group has recommended a proposed service model. However, consultants have not yet been appointed to develop designs for the new facility. The review by the Department of Health’s strategic infrastructure planning committee is an essential and normal part of the Government’s capital works procurement process. The Government is committed to completing this project within its first term of office.
