In relation to the Government’s ‘phasing down activity’ and proposed purchase of properties in Wittenoom -
(1) Has the Department of Science and Technology received offers from residents who wish to sell their land holdings in Wittenoom?
(2) If yes, how substantial are the quantities of land and property in question?
(3) What kind of assistance will the Department be providing to the residents who are offering their property for sale?
(4) How is the Department determining the value of property in Wittenoom?
(5) When does the Department foresee an end to this negotiation?
(6) Is the Government prioritising landholders who live in Wittenoom over landholders who live outside the township?

(1) Yes. (2) The Department of Industry and Technology has received expressions of interest from 6 property owners to sell their Wittenoom properties consisting of 8 houses and 8 vacant lots. The department has reached agreement with one property owner to purchase his house. (3) Residents who sell their house are offered financial assistance of $4 750 for the relocation of household goods and $355.50 per adult towards relocation travel expenses. (4) An upper limit of $35 550 has been established for houses. The condition of each house is assessed by a licensed valuer to determine an appropriate value within the range of 75 per cent of the upper limit for houses in poor condition to 100 per cent for houses in good condition. Properties consisting of land only are not considered under the current program. (5) Negotiations will continue until all privately owned property in Wittenoom has been purchased. (6) The current Property Purchase Program is limited to permanent residents of Wittenoom. (7) Offers to purchase are limited to permanent residents subject to sufficient funds remaining in the Wittenoom Relocation Trust Fund.
