BUS SERVICES — ROUTE 30
72. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the number 20 bus route
from Morley bus station to Edith Cowan University, Mt Lawley, which had a route
change in 2014 that resulted in it no longer stopping at Dianella Community
Centre; stopping as previously at the Dianella Plaza Shopping Centre and
Dianella Library, but at bus stops that have no footpaths; and looping up
Waverley Street for around 700 metres with no bus stops.
(1) Is the
minister aware that the new route significantly reduces for people with
mobility issues access to the local shops and amenities by stopping at bus
stops with no footpath?
(2) For what
reason was the route changed?
(3) How does the
reduction of access fit with the Public Transport Authority's
Disability and Access Inclusion Plan 2012–2017?

On behalf of the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport, I thank the member for some
notice of the question.
(1) Transperth
does not agree that changes to the route 20 bus service have reduced community
access to Dianella Plaza Shopping Centre and Dianella Library. The provision of
footpaths is the responsibility of local government.
(2) Transperth
made changes to the 17, 19, 20 and 406 bus route services on 3 May 2015 in
response to changing demand in the area.
(3) The Public
Transport Authority does not agree that there has been a reduction in access.
