I refer to the policy, beginning in 2009, of purchasing

of those are managed by non-government organisations and how many by the
department?
(3) What is
the age range of children placed in this type of residential care?
(4) What is
the average operational cost of running these homes —

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) We have
purchased 42.
(2) There are
21 family group homes in the metropolitan area and eight in the country managed
by non-government organisations, and they are operated on a model that employs
live-in carers. There are 12 residential group homes in the metropolitan area
and one in the country managed by the Department for Child Protection. These
are managed on a model that has rostered staff, psychologists, education
officers and house managers, and cater for more severely traumatised and
behaviourally disturbed children.
(3) For family
group homes, zero to 17 years; for residential group homes, 10 to 17 years.
(4) (a) For
family group homes, $435 693 above the twenty-sixth parallel, and $363 143
below the twenty-sixth parallel.
(b) For residential group homes, $1.055 million.
(5) Not at
this stage.
I am extremely proud of this program. When I go out and visit
the children in four-bedroom homes, it is just wonderful to see them in there
instead of those terrible hostels that they had years ago.
